WHAAAAAAA?

HUGH HEWITT

It's been a while since I've dipped my toe in the wacky pool that is Hugh Hewitt. But this uttering requires my utmost attention. In a recent column Hewitt spends several paragraphs flagellating any Republican within striking distance over the loss of both the House and the Senate this past week (though he does hold out hope of a Burns suprise in Montana; something that sadly (for him) did not come to pass). There is one passage, however, that almost made me toss my cookies (from Townhall via T-Bogg):
President Bush will not flag in the pursuit of the war, and Senator Santorum is now available for a seat on the SCOTUS should one become available.

Um... what? I have got to start reading Hewitt more often; the guy is a goldmine! Does he truly believe that Santorum would stand any chance at all of ever being a Supreme Court nominee, much less a confirmed member? A key component to any potential Supreme Court nominee these days is an ability to obfuscate one's actual views on a myriad of topics, so as to not "pre-judge" a case that the person might have to rule on one day. Santorum's views on any number of subjects is crystal clear, especially Roe v. Wade, the cause celebre of the right wing nation.

However, I did enjoy the turn of phrase Hewitt employed, "... Santorum now is available" afer losing his seat in the Senate. As if that's the only reason why Bush didn't turn to Ricky the last time there was a vacancy - because he already had a job.

One of the major reasons why it was so important for the Democrats to regain control of the Senate - so that Bush could no longer jam through these horrendous right-wing idealogues into our nation's courts, most especially the Highest Court. The days of stacking the Supreme Court with judges intent on overturning Roe v. Wade are past. But, like much of reality these days, Hewitt is having a difficult time accepting this new world order.

SICK OF SANTORUM

I've had it with the canonization of Rick Santorum. Personally, I haven't given a rat's ass about him. I know he was a specific target to defeat, and that's all I cared about. But, after listening to all the stomach-churning praise of him on CNN by partisan commentators (J.C. Watts, Bill Bennett) and not such a little much from supposedly news people (John King), and later to hear Tweety on MSNBC talk about how "real" he is and how he could be a Presidential contender, I decided to look up this "saintly" man's voting record.

My, my, my. This is a saint to them, eh? This is the man they think should run for President.

Rick Santorum is anti-choice, anti-civil rights, anti-gay, anti-women, anti-minority, anti-poor people, anti-working man, pro-business, pro-military, anti-education, anti-environment, pro-Christian Coalition, anti-fair trade, anti-national security, pro-corruption, pro-lobbyists, anti-voter, pro-gun, pro-crime, anti-social security, anti-seniors, anti-public health, pro-pharmaceutical companies, anti-union, anti-livable wage, and, unquestionably and extremely PRO-IRAQ WAR while still wanting to do business with pro-terrorism business entities. DAMN!!

I'm cross posting this and I've posted his voting record here. He's a fucking creep and we are well rid of him.

ABANDON SHIP!

RICK SANTORUM

Well, it's finally happening. With only three-plus weeks left until the November midterm elections, the GOP and their various campaign arms (NRC, NRCC, NRSC) have begun to pull funding from what they collectively feel are unwinnable races in order to utilize those resources where they will hopefully have the biggest impact. And Rick Santorum? He seems to have become one of the have-nots. Carl Cameron from Fox News says,
The Republican party may be signaling it's own doubts about its incumbent. The RNC and the National Republican Senatorial committee have made no plans to buy ads on Mr. Santorum's behalf in the final three and a half weeks of this race. Perhaps suggesting that they have begun losing confidence in whether or not their number three leader in the GOP can actually hang on to the seat[.]

So, according to Cameron the number three Republican in the United States Senate is basically being abandoned as a lost cause. And recent polls seem to indicate that the GOP is being smart on this as the average of the last 10 polls gives Santorum's opponent, Bob Casey Jr., with an 11-point average avantage (source: Pollster). Personally, I think that it might not be a bad thing if the GOP were to continue to dump money into a race that Santorum has never even sniffed a lead in (and had actually trailed Casey by 18 points in a poll by Gallup back in August). If the polls are to be believed, this race has been a sinking ship for quite a while now. It's only now, with about 25 days left until Election Day that they've decided to jump ship.

WELCOME TO CRAZYLAND, POPULATION:

RICK SANTORUM

As I am in desparate need of a quick break from all things Foley, here's some quick fun, courtesy of everyone's favorite man-dog love advocate, Rick Santorum (via OxBlog):

You probably remember well when Bill Clinton and the Democrats passed the largest single tax increase in our nation's history in 1993, $293 billion.

That sent our nation into an economic slump.

Now, I'll be the first to admit that I spent much of the early 90's studying and partying (and not always in the order) while in college, but I do not seem to recall an economic slump. Sort of the opposite, actually. But it's not like one should depend on little Ricky for unbiased historical perspective. Oh well, only a few more weeks before we don't have to deal with this guy any longer. I can make it.

LUUUUCY, I'M LOSING!

RICKY SANTORUM

Dollars to donuts, Ricky is the guy who invariably makes me laugh. More so than even Lieberman and Felix. I don't know, they guy is just a big goofball who has to know by now that he has no chance at holding onto his seat in the Senate. Over the last few weeks, the GOP has done everything in their power to shift the narrative and puts Dems on the defensive, mostly through Bush's "Fears and Lies U.S. Tour" that just recently wrapped up in front of a sellout crowd at the UN. Add to this media blitz the fact that Santorum has been running negative ads against his opponent Bob Casey and one would assume Ricky would receive some sort of boost in the race. And if you're one of those that would assume such a thing, then you would be wrong. Shorter me: Ricky, meet the tank. This is where you be living. After all the Bush blitz and all the ads, Ricky still cannot get closer than nine percent to Casey, and most polls do not even have him cracking 40% support. Far be it from me to frolic in the misery that is the Santorum campaign but it couldn't happen to a bigger ass.
Want one more laugh? This one's a doozy - you'll love it! The big ad that Ricky threw out there featured actors supposedly portraying four big donors to Casey's campaign meeting in a shadowy smoke-filled room. Oooh, spooky stuff, right? Well, Santorum's campaign later conceded that the four donors that the actors were portraying had never actually given money to Casey and two of them had in fact contributed to Ricky's campaign! Dude, that's freaking awesome!!! What can Ricky do next, show pictures of cute little bunnies and then have in a big bold font how a vote for Casey will result in these bunnies' deaths?! Ah, it is to laugh. Thank you, Ricky. When you go down, you go down hard, buddie.

NEW TO THE LIST
SENATOR RICK SANTORUM (R-PA)

C'mon, you knew this guy had to be coming soon, right? Well, unfortunately, there hasn't been to much from little Ricky of late. The reason I'm putting him up on the list is my general disdain for what's going on with the Senate race in Pennsylvania. With Little Ricky sinking in the polls to Democratic candidate Bob Casey Jr., the GOP has basically mobilized to assist Green Party schlub Carl Romanelli in an effort to peel some votes away from Casey. With the race apparently tightening up a bit as we get closer to election day, the strategy seems to be having an effect. Of course, this could all be moot if Romanelli doesn't qualify to appear on the ballot, a distinct possibility. The GOP knows this peril, so they obviously mobilize once again to assist here as well. Let's run down the GOP checklist for assisting Mr. Romanelli, shall we?

1. Solicit contributions for Romanelli - CHECK!
2. Pay for signature drive so that Romanelli can appear on ballot - CHECK!
3. Assist in gathering signatures - CHECK!
4. Assist Green Party volunteers in verifying these signatures - CHECK!

Paul Keil at TPM Muckraker has the full bit. Here's a clip:

To resolve Democrats' charges that most of the Greens' 100,000 signatures are invalid, a judge ordered that volunteers from both parties work side by side to establish whether they could agree on the validity of the signatures. The Department of State set up 9 computer terminals for the effort; at each station, a Democratic volunteer was to be paired with a Green volunteer. The effort is expected to take weeks.
But earlier this week, the Greens found themselves short of volunteers. So Republicans have arrived to help fill the gap. It's only natural: since GOP supporters
paid for the Green signature drive, and Santorum volunteers helped collect the signatures, they have a vested interest in seeing this through to the end.

So, little Ricky, knowing that he's facing certain defeat this November given his virulent and extremist right wing rhetoric through the years decides to jimmy with the system. Let's hope that the signature drive is a
crooked as it appears to be. (Thanks again, TPM-M.)

UPDATED TOP TEN:
1. Rick "Dog Sex Officianado" Santorum
2. Carl Romanelli - basically he's co-#1
3. Redstate.com - movin' on up if for no other reason than it's fun to watch them squirm as more and more signs point to big Dem gains come November.
4. Judge Anna Diggs Taylor - wow, she's really falling; maybe she could pass another ruling saying that Bushie actually has to follow the Constitution and not do whatever the hell he wants - that oughta get her back on top the list of America-haters!
5. George Felix Allen Jr. - they were talking about the "macaca" thing over on Chris Matthews last night. Huh, what I thought was a gaffe with maybe a day or two of panty-twisting has turned into a week of semi-apologies, horrendous dodges and outright stupidity by the Allen camp.
6. Tramm Hudson - I gotta check on this guy. Maybe he's gotta something to say about those "colored folks" liking fried chicken and watermelon.
7. Cheney
8. Loserman

#9 is coming this afternoon. Can you guess who it's gonna be?
