WORST PEOPLE
IN THE WORLD

SPECIAL POST-ELECTION EDITION

Being the first casualty of the post 2006 midterm world we now find ourselves in, Donald Rumsfeld gets a mention this week. After seeming dodging yet another bullet as Bush gave him his highest support, Rummy was subsequently fired less than a week later. And that move sure did piss off more than a few on the right, who felt (perhaps correctly) that firing him earlier might have helped their chances of holding at least the Senate this past Tuesday. Though by no means the key cog of all that is wrong with the Bush team's foreign policy, he is certainly deserving of much of the blame. He will not be missed and I expect that we have not seen the last of Rumsfeld, whether he's appearing before congressional hearings or being charged with war crimes in Germany. So much the better.

Two of our favorite targets here at America's Least Wanted were removed from office this past week, so I think they should share a special mention here. I speak of course of George Felix Allen Jr. and Rick "Man-Dog-Sex" Santorum. They have combined for something like a dozen posts here at ALW and have provided me endless material, running the spectrum from calling a dark-skinned American "macaca" to suggesting that gay sex is akin to bestiality. While I am certainly pleased that they can no longer subject the country to their particular brand of morality and angry partisanship in the Senate, I will definitely miss their charming shooting-fish-in-a-barrel-ness quality that made them such easy targets around here.

The master of all things spin is apparently another casualty of last Tuesday's elections, Mr. Ken Mehlman. Yes, I understand that it's his job to spin his party's candidates in the best possible light, but to do so to the point of absurdity strains any credibility one may still have, which, in Mehlman's case, isn't all that much. Case in point was election night, Mehlman continued to spin that Senate nominee Michael Steele was going to make history by being elected. This after the race had already been called hours before and the vote tallies were solidly backing up the early call. Oh, and there was that little bit about him being outed on Larry King's show by Bill Maher. Being a citizen of the blogosphere for years, this was no big surprise as rumors had floated around for some time, but I'm certain that somewhere in this country, an ignorant conservative voter felt betrayed as one of them sissy homo-sexuals had sabotaged the GOP from within.

Of course, no election day top five would be complete without a special George W. Bush mention. To say that the guy has had a bad week would be an enormous understatement. First he loses the House, has to fire his Secretary of Defense, loses the Senate, has to go to his old man to bail him out of yet another failed business, this time in the form of James Baker and Robert Gates, and finally, disgrace of all disgraces, has to use nasty words like bipartisanship while sitting next to that "San Francisco Liberal" Nancy Pelosi. Of course, one of those first acts of bipartisanship is to again nominate the highly divisive John Bolton after recess-appointing him last year because Dems refused to accept him back then. Methinks someone should get his Highness a dictionary.

Now, I turn to one final group, the biggest losers this past week - the Conservate Noise Machine. After a string of electoral wins over the last several years, they firmly believed they had entered into a world where Republicans would hold a permanent majority. In doing so, they failed to follow the Boy Scouts' most basic tenet - be prepared. And prepared they certainly were not as they now find themselves running around muttering any and all sorts of nonsense in a vain attempt to make sense of the strange new world they now find themselves occupying. Whether it's Rush Limbaugh lying to his listeners by claiming that though their team had lost, he didn't really care all that much because they were losers anyway; or Hugh Hewitt, who categorically refuses to accept certain aspects of reality as they do not fit into his odd worldview. In his addled brain, Bush has never been more powerful and should continue pursuing his radical (though not to Hugh) agenda. And of course, no mention of Bush's deluded minions would be complete without a special nod to Jonah Goldberg. His ramblings about Bush spending 24 hours in a sweat lodge then hunting a bear with a knife and eating its still-beating heart and throwing the bloody carcass onto Helen Thomas is the stuff of legend. Actually, I would wholeheartedly support Bush doing something like Jonah described, as there would never be a better case made in regards to Bush's mental incapacitation. A quick impeachment of DICK Cheney and we have ourselves President Nancy Pelosi. And if you think the righties are nuts about losing Congress, imagine their reaction to that!

FIVE WORST PEOPLE
IN THE WORLD

ELEVENTH EDITION

Tony Snow starts things off for us in Week Eleven. He spent the better part of this week basically making crap up out of whole cloth about Bush, like how he's the champion of stem cell research and the highest of high protectors of the environment. Luckily there's this little thing called the internets that allows ordinary people to do things like research in order to call BX on Snow-spin. Snow also made time to demand an apology from John Kerry hours after Kerry had already given an apology.

George W. Bush isn't even being subtle about it anymore. I'm referring of course to Bush now coming out and flat out saying that a vote for Democrats this Tuesday is a vote for terrorists. It reminds me of DICK Cheney's nonsense back in '04 as he tried (and apparently succeeded) in frightening the voting public by claiming that the "wrong choice" this November could lead to another 9/11. Bush has apparently now dropped all pretense about being above the partisan fray and is now basically calling anyone who would even contemplate voting for Dems a terrorist sympathizer.

The latest religious right hypocrite to come out is none other than Ted Haggard, a man who just two days ago, I had never heard of. Now, he's at the center of a whole load of shitstorms because he was the leader of a major religious organization that spent much time and energy railing against gays and such. So naturally the guy has been frequenting a gay prostitute for the past three years, obstensibly for "massages" and methanphetamines. As yet another religious zealot is exposed for the hypocrite he is, this will more than likely further depress GOP/conservative get-out-the-vote efforts. Oh, happy days...

Whatever you do, do not ask George Felix Allen Jr. anything that might offend him, for if you do, his goonsquad will assault you, throw you to the ground and forcibly remove you from Felix's presense. After all, that's what happened to one of his own constituents, who wanted to know about Felix's past problems with his wife. Inappropriate to ask? Perhaps, but I would tend to think in this day and age that anything is fair game. If you've got a skeleton in your closet, you'd best be prepared to defend it. Unless you're Felix; then you just have your thugs remove the offending party.

John Boehner spent much of the week felating Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. What with all the love from Boehner to Rummy, I would almost wonder if the Rum-man has a pic or two of Boehner in a compromising position. First Boehney claims that the Donald is the best thing to happen to the Pentagon in twenty-five years. Then later he claims that, though he is the freakin' Secretary of Defense and as such is in charge of the war in Iraq, Rumsfeld should not be blamed for all the problems in Iraq. As I noted earlier, he is sort of right in that Bush should shoulder most of the blame, but since we all know that that's not how this adminstration operates, the blame must instead fall somewhere else. And Boehner points the finger at the "generals on the ground". Because in this day and age, fault never falls at the leaders' feet; it stops a few levels down.

Here's the latest tally after ELEVEN weeks:
George W. Bush - 25 points
George Felix Allen Jr. - 16 points

FIVE WORST PEOPLE
IN THE WORLD

TENTH EDITION

Sean Hannity has gotten so desperate that he's begging Democrats to stay home come Election Day. Um, that's about all I've got for this. I just thought it was sort of funny and pitiful.

Karl Rove has either got this election completely and totally fixed so that his party can't lose in eleven days or he is pathologically delusional. And if it is the latter, then apparently math and polling work differently in his delusional world since he believes that while most polling indicates the Democrats gaining control of at least one house of Congress, in Rove math the GOP will keep control. Because he claims to look at more polls. And all those polls we lowly peons do not see tell him that the Republicans are all set come November 7th. So, like I said, either the fix is in, or the guy has lost his marbles. It better be the latter because I'm hoping the American public won't stand for the former yet again.

It's been quite a busy week for George W. Bush as he's spent much of it mired in some insane morass of semantics. I'm not even sure what his latest talking point is since he's gone from "stay the course" to "adapt to win" along with a couple of benchmarks and sort-of timetables thrown into the mix. Of couse, none of this actually addresses ANY of the problems in Iraq; it is more like owning a dog that keeps crapping all of the carpet, but you keep arguing what you should call the dog instead of actually addresses the crap-stained carpet. Of course, if I wanted someone to seriously address pressing foreign policy issues, I certainly wouldn't ask this cretin.

Donald Rumsfeld earned a strong amount of my ire this week when he told people how they need to just chill out on all the Iraq griping. I mean, seriously, it's not like they've given us any reason to be concerned with just how horrendously they've screwed up Iraq, so maybe we should just all just trust that things will eventually work themselves out and until then we should all just shut the hell up.

By far, the biggest hunk of garbage of the past week is obviously Rush Limbaugh, who thought nothing of ridiculing Michael J. Fox for no other reason than Fox came out in support of stem cell research. Mr. "I've actually had a couple of run-ins with the law myself for drugs" actually spoke out of his ass when he opined that Fox got off his meds for Parkinson's in order to look "extra-shaky" for the stem cell ad. Of course, one quick google search would have educated the bloviating one about the effects of not taking one's meds when one has Parkinson's - namely the exact opposite of excessive movement. But then that storyline would fit in with his smear of someone who doesn't comport with his views.

Here's the latest tally after TEN weeks:
George W. Bush - 23 points
Joe Lieberman - 15 points
Dick Cheney - 13 points
John McCain - 12 points
George Felix Allen Jr. - 12 points

FIVE WORST PEOPLE
IN THE WORLD

NINTH EDITION

TONY SNOW hit the rare combo of being both a scoundrel and a nincompoop all in one week. He started off by claiming that Bush reminds him of "one of those guys at the gym who plays about 40 chessboards at once" and then followed it up a day or so later with the rather telling statement that he and the administration really have no idea what the hell they're doing in Iraq and haven't the slightest idea what winning in Iraq even means, much less how to accomplish it.

KING GEORGE THE BUSH gets a nod this week for signing the Military Commissions Act into law this week. It signing marks a black day in American history, much like the Alien and Sedition Acts, Dred Scott v. Sandford and Plessy v. Ferguson, all three of which were eventually proven to be dark stains on the American tapestry. In short order, the MCA will join that ignominious group.

PETER KING should never ever get a job working for the New York Tourism Board after making the claim that Baghdad and Manhattan were very much alike. Except of course for the car bombs and the IEDs and the snipers and the heavily armed troops and the fact that oh, about a hundred or so civilians are killed on a daily basis, as opposed to approximately ten a month in NYC.

Time after time JOE LIEBERMAN proves that he's as loyal to Democrats as I am to staying on a diet (which is to say not so much). Earlier this week, Lieberman claimed that he hasn't given any thought as to whether it would be a good thing if Democrats won control of the House. If you, a supposed Democrat through and through, cannot muster up enough common sense to answer, "You bet it's good for America," regardless of how you might feel. Unless of course you're so driven to win Republican votes in order to hold onto your seat that you're afraid to say or do anything that would make you sound like someone even remotely interested in remaining a Dem should you be reelected.

When will the lying and bullshit stop? If I had only one question to ask the vice president, I would love it if DICK CHENEY could give me a straight answer on this. Earlier this week, he appeared on Rush Limbaugh's radio program to continue his BS parade about how things are going so well in Iraq. He then came back and preposturously claimed, during a local television interview, that universally denounced lie that Iraq and al Qaeda were linked. Enough, sir. Enough. It does not matter how many times you repeat the exact same lies, it will never make them true. Just stop, you evil little man.

Here's the latest tally after nine weeks:
George W. Bush - 20 points
Joe Lieberman - 15 points
Dick Cheney - 13 points
John McCain - 12 points
George Felix Allen Jr. - 12 points

FIVE WORST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD

SPECIAL "TOP NINE" EDITION (WEEK SEVEN)

As I sat down to write my weekly FIVE WORST PEOPLE list I just couldn't find it in my heart to eliminate the four very deserving individuals who would inevitably be left off if I were to insist on being slavish to my FIVE WORST rule. So, I thought that I'd introduce a special edition this week, given how important it was to enlightening the American people to just how morally bankrupt today's Republican Party truly is. We bloggers and blog readers have known for years that this is the case, but the actions (and inactions) of the GOP this week have really been something of a coming out party (so to speak) so I thought it would be alright to commemorate it with a special NINE WORST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. Without further ado, away we go!

We get things rolling today with White House press secretary Tony Snow, who began the GOP effort to downplay the whole Mark Foley controversy by calling the various exchanges between Foley and underage pages as "naughty emails." Of course, hours later he was amending his comments since the "naughty emails" thing really sounded a little flippant. Ya think?

Just once I'd like to see Joe Lieberman actually side with the Dems on something important. Time after time he has spit in the face of his fellow Democrats in order to cozy up with his future caucus in the GOP. Lately it's been all about holding up Bush's ass on Iraq, but this week it was about crapping on the Dems for actually taking the crazy step of demanding accountability from the Republican leadership in the House. But, I guess since Joe is about four weeks away from declaring a party change (assuming he gets reelected), he's already working on becoming indoctrinated into the GOP-think of "take no responsibility, EVER".

So does Newt Gingrich want a new job or something? Because he sure was making himself out to be the protector against gay bashing with his appearance on Fox News this week. Newt tried to sell a bill of goods that the House leadership didn't go too hard after Foley for fear of appearing as if they were gay bashing. I think that Jon Stewart said it best a couple of days ago when, in reply to Newt's nonsense said, “And by the way, equating a 52-year-old congressman who preys on 16-year-olds with being gay may be one reason the GOP is accused of gay-bashing.”

Matt Drudge was the first one out of the gate with the inevitable attack that the pages were actually to blame for the entire Foley controversy. After all, those boys can be so darn seductive when they're ... existing. So Drudge actually dug up that old chestnut - you know the one - how a rape victim really isn't a victim because they were asking for it. Maybe their skirt was too short or perhaps the fact that they chose to wear a low-cut dress means that no man can be held responsible for their actions. Because apparently, like the woman, those pages were asking to be stalked by a predator like Foley. And the latest news from Drudge is that he's pushing a story how all the various IMs are just a big prank that "went awry". Except that still doesn't absolve Foley of the main jist of the case - namely that he was having inappropriate and possibly illegal instant messaging conversations with underage boys. Nothing that the right wing throws out ever debunks this one key fact.

Hey, did you hear what Ben Stein said about gays? Something about how it's a big part of gay life to get all hot and bothered whenever a young boy walks past. But it's okay for him to say this because his best friend is gay. If I were that guy, Stein would be my former best friend since I would find it awfully difficult to even sit in the same room with a man who purports to be my best friend yet thinks that I'll pop a stiffy whenever I see a little boy in the line at a McDonalds.

I hear that New York Congressman Tom Reynolds has a new motto: when the going gets tough, call in children to form a human shield. And that's exactly what Reynolds did. Knowing that he was in some amount of trouble given that he knew of Mark Foley's "naughty emails" problem yet still pushed Foley to run for reelection this year, did Reynolds decide to unflinchingly face the press? Of course not. He held a press conference in front of a group of children and supporters. When the supporters asked f0r the children to leave so that they could actually have a frank discussion on the Foley matter, Reynolds refused. To actually use children to protect oneself from tough questions has got to be a new low in the annals of GOP history. Oh, and his constituents seem to agree with my assessment. Latest polling shows him trailing his Democratic opponent by five percentage points in a SurveyUSA poll and eight points in an internal poll. This guy is head of the NRCC (and his only job is make sure the GOP keeps their majority) and he's in serious danger of losing his seat. I would think that's almost unheard of, but these are strange times in politics. And by strange I mean voters are pissed that the GOP sat on their hands while a member of their caucus was out cruising for underage male Congressional pages.

I'm kind of angry on one level about the entire Foley controversy and coverup for one reason: Bill Frist said some insanely stupid stuff that during a normal news week would have gotten huge play. After visiting Afghanistan, Fristy seems to believe that it's time to forgive and forget with the Taliban and let them return as a part of the new and improved Afghan government. I personally think that this is huge! He's ready to allow a government that was complicit in the 9/11 attacks to return to a position of power. This is so wrong on so many levels - what about the brave armed forces who lost their lives (and continue to put their lives at risk) to depose the Taliban? I always knew that the GOP views our military as a disposable commodity but for Frist to come out and so openly shit on their sacrifices (and not to mention those who perished on 9/11) is just dispicable. And this is a man who wants to be our next president.

At number two we have the sexual predator that started it all, former congressman Mark Foley. Depending on what reports one has read, and there are more coming out every day, Foley may have actually been stalking young pages since the mid-nineties upon taking office. (Hey, anybody else remember a seminal event in the nation's history when a certain president was getting impeached for lying about a blowjob? And all the while this pedophile was running free in the halls of Congress.) Oh, and did I mention that, just like anyone caught with their pants down (sorta pun intended) he's gone ahead and checked himself into rehab for alcoholism. Because why else would he do this kind of stuff unless he was drunk, right? Oh, and he was molested by a clergyman about forty years ago too. So, to recap, Foley is supposedly a drunk who was molested as a teenager who, because of the booze and the molesting is now a flaming homo who likes boys. Yeah. Got it.

And finally, coming in at numero uno this week is House Speaker Denny Hastert, who actually got more posts this week than Foley did. And to be fair, he did have a busier week than Foley. After all, it is awful hard work blaming everybody else for your lack of leadership. To date, he has pointed the finger at some many different people that he is probably going to have to get out the DC phonebook in order to find someone he hasn't already blamed. I always thought that the GOP was supposed to be the party of personal responsibility, yet the man (and his party) seem pathologically incapable of shouldering any of the responsibility.

Here's the latest tally after five weeks:
George W. Bush - 17 points
George Felix Allen Jr. - 12 points
Joe Lieberman - 11 points
Denny Hastert - 9 points
Bill Frist - 8 points
Mark Foley - 8 points
John McCain - 7 points
Tom Reynolds - 6 points
Donald Rumsfeld - 6 points
Dick Cheney - 6 points
Ben Stein - 5 points
Chris Wallace - 5 points
ABC - Path to 9/11 - 5 points
Matt Drudge - 4 points
Geoff Davis - 4 points
Matt Drudge - 3 points

Condoleeza Rice - 3 points
Ann Coulter - 3 points
JD Hayworth - 2 points
John Boehner - 2 points
Michael Savage - 2 points
Neil Cavuto - 2 points
Tony Snow - 1 point
Frank Gaffney - 1 point
Hugh Hewitt - 1 point

(Points are awarded based on five points for a first place finish, four points for second and so on. Points will be carried over from week to week. NOTE: This week is a little different given the expansion of the roster so first place gets nine points and so on down the line.)

THE FIVE WORST PEOPLE
IN THE WORLD

SIXTH EDITION

I couldn't decide who should get bumped off the TOP FIVE list so I decided to include both of them in a tie: Bill Frist and John Boehner the majority leaders of the Senate and House, respectively. This week, Fristy blamed the Democrats for the "Do-Nothing" Congress. Yes, the minority party is to blame for the Senate not doing anything. It's hard to get things done when you've got a 55-seat majority, I suppose. As for Boehner, he went out on Wednesday and actually tried pushing the old canard that Saddam really really was helping the 9/11 terrorists and that Iraq really really did have WMDs. "But, but, but what about all the evidence to the contrary?" I hypothetically ask the congressman. "Evidence? Boehner don't need no stinking evidence! " he replies in the third person.

JD Hayworth earned a spot a number four this week by taking a sip of the Cheney kool-aid when he said that to exercise our right to criticize the government is to aid the terrorists. Remember, according to the GOP, in order to protect America, we can no longer be Americans.

Today's GOP priorities were laid out for everyone to see as Colorado rep. Marilyn Musgrave stated that the most important issue facing this nation is terrorism and national security. Oh, wait, that's not right. She said the most important issue was the war in Iraq. Ooops, wrong again. Actually, according the Ms. Musgrave, the most important issue facing America is gay marriage. Yep. Your Republican Congress at work, folks. Take a bow.

George Felix Allen Jr. got himself two mentions this week as he cannot seem to not have controversy surrounding him this election season. Early in the week, Felix made the really dumb claim that he had never ever never used the "n-word" ever never in his entire life. And, or course, people are coming out of the woodwork to dispute that claim. Now, it appears that Felix has something of a penchant for spitting at women's feet. Yes, he spits. At women's feet. You cannot make this stuff up.

This week's number one just has to go to Fox News' Chris Wallace, who took on President Bill Clinton and lost. Badly. Wallace thought that he could actually come at President Clinton with the same old attacks that work so well on so many other Dems when they dare to come on the GOP network. Well, Wallace was really wrong because Mr. Clinton got right up in his grill, called him on it, then rationally explained why Wallace and his network of mouthpieces was totally and completely wrong. It was a real thing of beauty.

Here's the latest tally after six weeks:
George W. Bush - 17 points
George Felix Allen Jr. - 12 points
Joe Lieberman - 9 points
John McCain - 7 points
Donald Rumsfeld - 6 points
Dick Cheney - 6 points
Chris Wallace - 5 points
ABC - Path to 9/11 - 5 points

Michelle Malkin - 3 points
Condoleeza Rice - 3 points
Ann Coulter - 3 points
JD Hayworth - 2 points
John Boehner - 2 points

THE FIVE WORST
PEOPLE IN THE WORLD

WEEK FIVE

This is probably one of my toughest lists to narrow down since I started doing it a month ago. There are just so many worthy candidates qualifying for the TOP FIVE list this week. I know that some deserving evil bastard is going to get left off. Regardless, I'll do my best. And away we go!

Donald Rumsfeld starts things off at number five a he gives us reason number 2564 for invading Iraq. He wants us to imagine what oil prices would be like if we hadn't. See, Buchco did us a favor at the pumps by going into Iraq. Everyone make sure you thank them come November 7th. Just pick the people with the "D" next to their names. It's stands for how delighted you are with the decision to go to war.

Arriving in the fourth slot is Michael Savage, who blames all the meanness in Congress on the fact that them dern women got elected. Latest reports that I've seen say that Savage has been indiscriminantly hitting random women over the head with a large wooden club and dragging them back to his cave.

At number three is George W. Bush, who spent his being week pushing his torture legislation while also taking the time to look like a big assclown in front of the U.N. Oh, and he also said that it is an urban myth that he's stopped chasing after Osama. Uh huh.

Rep. Geoff Davis (R-KY) makes his first appearance on the TOP FIVE list by trying to kill legislation that would protect American soldiers and their families from predatory lenders. We've since learned that this asshole was bought and paid for by these same lenders, so it's really not all that surprising. Offensively dispicable yes, but not surprising. According to Bluegrassreport.org, this is definitely having an effect on his reelection chances, as well it should.
And, at number one, we've got none other than John McCain, or as we like to call him, the MAVERICK. See, the Maverick is such a principled man that he refused to budge on his insistence that America abide by the Geneva Conventions when it comes to not torturing the enemy. He's such a principled man that he folded like a house of cards, just like he always does. He'll act just tough enough to burnish his Maverick credentials for the media, then cave when the chips are down.

Here's the latest tally after five weeks:
George W. Bush - 17 points
Joe Lieberman - 9 points
George Felix Allen Jr. - 8 points
John McCain - 7 points
Donald Rumsfeld - 6 points
Dick Cheney 6 points
ABC - Path to 9/11 - 5 points
Geoff Davis - 4 points
Michelle Malkin - 3 points
Condoleeza Rice - 3 points
Ann Coulter - 3 points
Michael Savage - 2 points
Neil Cavuto - 2 points
John Boehner - 1 point
Frank Gaffney - 1 point
Hugh Hewitt - 1 point

(Points are awarded based on five points for a first place finish, four points for second and so on. Points will be carried over from week to week.)
