RICK SANTORUM
Well, it's finally happening. With only three-plus weeks left until the November midterm elections, the GOP and their various campaign arms (NRC, NRCC, NRSC) have begun to pull funding from what they collectively feel are unwinnable races in order to utilize those resources where they will hopefully have the biggest impact. And Rick Santorum? He seems to have become one of the have-nots. Carl Cameron from Fox News says,
The Republican party may be signaling it's own doubts about its incumbent. The RNC and the National Republican Senatorial committee have made no plans to buy ads on Mr. Santorum's behalf in the final three and a half weeks of this race. Perhaps suggesting that they have begun losing confidence in whether or not their number three leader in the GOP can actually hang on to the seat[.]
So, according to Cameron the number three Republican in the United States Senate is basically being abandoned as a lost cause. And recent polls seem to indicate that the GOP is being smart on this as the average of the last 10 polls gives Santorum's opponent, Bob Casey Jr., with an 11-point average avantage (source: Pollster). Personally, I think that it might not be a bad thing if the GOP were to continue to dump money into a race that Santorum has never even sniffed a lead in (and had actually trailed Casey by 18 points in a poll by Gallup back in August). If the polls are to be believed, this race has been a sinking ship for quite a while now. It's only now, with about 25 days left until Election Day that they've decided to jump ship.
